Bulk Freezer Fillers

Buying bulk meat can be intimidating if you’ve never done it before. There is a lot of lingo most people aren’t familiar with when it comes to working with butchers and buying bulk meats. We will try to take the headache out of the process for you, as best we can! We are a small farm and only offer bulk meats a few times a year so please keep in mind it can be 3-6 months from ordering to getting your meat.

Why would I buy bulk?

Buying bulk meat is the most sustainable way to go, you buy all your meat at once, we use less gasoline for transport and less electricity for freezing We have less overhead costs in selling larger quantities of meat. So we design our freezer fillers as a significant savings, that we pass along to you for buying in bulk. Plus how can you not love that you get all the high end cuts for one low per pound!

How much freezer space will I need?

Plan on approximately one cubic foot of freezer space for every 15-20 pounds of meat. The interior of a milk crate is slightly more than a cubic foot. Here’s a rough guide to how much freezer space you’ll need.

1/4 Beef: 3.5 cu ft. freezer (top-freezer refrigerator)

1/2 Beef: 7 cubic feet (small chest freezer, french-door refrigerator, bottom-freezer refrigerator)

1/2 Hog: 3.5 cubic feet (top-freezer refrigerator)

Whole Hog: 7 cubic feet (small chest freezer, french-door refrigerator, bottom-freezer refrigerator)

What will I get?

Working with whole animals the math is always a little tricky. Each animal will be weighed by the butcher “on the rail”. This is the useable meat that remains after the initial processing. Click below for a list of cuts and quantities to expect
